weekend

what did i do this weekend, you might be wondering. What do people who dislike blind patriotism to a country doing bad things, people who can't stand patriotism in the church under ANY circumstances, do on Independence Day Weekend?

Friday: Jason's last day of work cookout and pool party! Becca, Patrick, and Laura came over. There was pool, grill out, and cake and ice cream! yum.

Saturday: On Call. Wrote CPE assignment for this week. Took the beeper home. Read three books. Slept. (no calls. it was beautiful)

Sunday: Church--it wasn't patriotic. I even survived My Country 'Tis of Thee, though I do have a question about the grammar. "My country, 'tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing." Isn't "tis of thee" and "of thee" redundant? Does that sentence actually make sense? I'm not sure. Anyway, post-church was lunch with Becca and Laura (mmm..Camille's and their tomato soup!), then Buffy watching. I probably watched four or five episodes of Buffy. It was great.

Monday: sleep in. do laundry. watch buffy (just one ep). clean kitchen. go to Becca and Patrick's house (Jason met us there too). Grill out. Play cards. Play with the newly legal "fireworks" which are really just the fountain kind. Plan to go for Stone mountain fireworks, get rained out. watch Capitol Fourth and the Boston Pops fireworks and concerts. I'm all over the celebration of our independence and the things this country is supposed to stand for. It's just that I'm not sure we live up to that right now. I hope one day we can once again recognize that revolution (and true independence) comes from within--it can't be forced in from the outside. All in all, however, fireworks are cool.

Now it's time to go for an exciting movie night. with pizza. i love pizza. mmmmm.......
